For the third year running, Surry Hills Police held their annual ball in August to raise funds for Sony Foundation.

For the third year running, Surry Hills Police held their annual ball in August to raise funds for Sony Foundation. Hosted by 2GB’s Ben Fordham, his year the ball was double the size with nearly 1,000 attendees representing the Area Commands from the Central Metropolitan Region, with special guest NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb APM.

The ball is an initiative led by NSW Assistant Commissioner Gavin Wood APM for all the dedicated Police Officers to celebrate together, with their corporate networks, and in doing so raise much needed funds for worthy causes in their community.

Thanks to the generosity in the room, an incredible $50,000 was raised on the night to fund Sony Foundations’ Children’s Holiday Camp Program (affectionately known as Sony Camp) for children with disability in the Sydney area. Sony Camp is a unique respite program that sees high school and university students take on the responsibility for the care of children with disability, allowing their families to have a valuable weekend off.

Assitant Commissioner Gavin Wood APM said, “After many delays due to the pandemic, we were thrilled to finally be able to host our Police Ball with our valued partners in the community and dedicated Police Force. We are very proud of the generosity in the room that night which resulted in a significant amount of funds raised on the night for worthy charities in our community, like Sony Foundation.”

Four Sony Camps will benefit from these funds for their upcoming camps to be held in December including PLC/Shore Sony Camp, St Andrews College, University of Sydney Sony Camp, St Joseph’s College/Brigidine College/Marist Sisters College Sony Camp, and The Illawarra Grammar School Sony Camp.

Sony Foundation would like to sincerely thank Assistant Commissioner Gavin Wood and Inspector Julia Patton for their leadership, vision and determination to create an event that has a social impact outcome, that will bring smiles to many young kids faces this December.
