You Can Centres

Issue:

Following a Senate Inquiry, Sony Foundation learned of the gap in care for young cancer patients in the 15-25
age bracket.

Solution:

Sony Foundation launched the national youth cancer initiative ‘You Can’ to close the gap in care that currently
exists for 15-25 year olds with cancer establishing specialised youth cancer centres around Australia.

Progress:

Eight years on has seen You Can continue to steadily advance across Australia with centres, programs and
research.

Perth You Can Centre

Status: Donation of $1.8 million. Complete and fully operational You Can Centre at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. Opened in 2013.

Melbourne You Can Centre

Status: Donation of $1.5 million. Complete and fully operational You Can Centre at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Opened in 2016.

Sydney You Can Centre

Status: Commitment of $1.5 million. Building in progress at the Prince of Wales Hospital. Project opening Q4 2018.

Brisbane You Can Centre

Status: Commitment of $1.8 million. Soon-to-be finalised plans for construction of a fourth You Can Centre at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. To open in Q1 2019.

Sydney You Can Oncofertility Centre

Status: Funding of $400,000 towards free fertility preservation services for youth cancer patients at the Fertility & Research Centre, The Royal Hospital for Women Randwick Sydney. Project opening in Q3 2018.
