You Can Centres

Issue:

Following a Senate Inquiry, Sony Foundation learned of the gap in care for young cancer patients in the 15-25
age bracket.

Solution:

Sony Foundation launched the national youth cancer initiative ‘You Can’ to close the gap in care that currently
exists for 15-25 year olds with cancer establishing specialised youth cancer centres around Australia.

Progress:

Eleven years on has seen You Can continue to steadily advance across Australia with centres, programs and
research.

Perth You Can Centre

Status: Donation of $1.8 million. Complete and fully operational You Can Centre at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. Opened in 2013.

Melbourne You Can Centre

Status: Donation of $1.5 million. Complete and fully operational You Can Centre at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Opened in 2016.

Sydney You Can Centre

Status: Donation of $1.5 million. Complete and fully operational at the Prince of Wales Hospital, Randwick. Opened March 2020.

Brisbane You Can Centre

Status: Donation of $1.8 million. Complete and fully operational You Can Centre at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. Opened in 2019.

Camperdown You Can Centre

Status: Commitement of $1.5 million. Construction soon to start at the Chris O'Brien Lifehouse Hospital in Camperdown, Sydney. Project due to be complete in 2021.
