NRL LEGEND VISITS TOWNSVILLE SONY CAMP
Date: 24 September 2021
Sony Foundation Ambassador and NRL legend, Johnathan Thurston, paid a special surprise visit to Sony Foundation’s Townsville Children’s Holiday Camps on the 20th September, much to the delight of the campers and companions on the Townsville Grammar Sony Camp.
Stopping in at Townsville Grammar School Sony Camp, Thurston spent time getting to know the campers and their companions at their ‘Show Day’. Check out all the excitement below:
As always, the Student Companions at Townsville Grammar School stopped at nothing to give the Campers a holiday of a lifetime. For many of the Campers a highlight was the disco! Every year the disco has a different theme, and this year’s was ‘Jungle’. Throughout the night, the Campers and Companions danced to a specially curated Jungle playlist, with ‘Madagascar’ favourite ‘I Like to Move It’ proving to be most popular.
To hear more about all the activities and the jungle disco, catch a replay of ABC North QLD’s Morning Show below, where Campers, Companions, Parents and Volunteers share their highlights with host Henry Bretz.
The Townsville Grammar School Camp has been running in September annually since 2018, and this year welcomed a record number of Campers.
During a time where free and accessible respite is needed more than ever, Sony Foundation is excited to be welcoming 120+ children with disability to one of four Sony Camps running across Queensland during September, to be cared for by 275+ high school students.
