Gamers unite to support Sony Foundation's Bushfire Appeal

In wake of the unprecedented bushfires experienced this summer in Australia, the global gaming community came together over three weeks for Sony Foundation’s annual Twitch Charity Stream ‘Gaming4Life’ which this year was dedicated to raising funds for the Bushfire Appeal, supporting communites most affected. 

With more than 8 million hectares having been burnt, and hundreds of communities affected, the road to recovery is long, and Sony Foundation Australia is committed to funding projects that will support young Australians in these communities long after the smoke clears.

Sony Foundation Australia is extremely humbled by the 24 fundraisers and nearly 500 donors from around the world who took part in Gaming4Life who share in our deep concern for those in communities who have been impacted by these catastrophic fires.

Thanks to this incredibly generous community, a total of USD$12, 651 / AUD$19, 250 was raised during the hundreds of hours of gaming throughout the three week Gaming4Life event. These funds will go towards Sony Foundation’s Bushfire Appeal which includes a $AU200,000 donation from Sony Foundation Australia, AUD$8,100 in Sony employee donations and funds raised from a soon to be released Sony Music artist compliation CD “Artists Unite for FireFight”.

Supported by Sony Australia and Sony Interactive Entertainment, some of PlayStation’s leading Creative Studios hosted streams including; Media Molecule, Naughty Dog and Insomniac as well as PlayStation’s Senior Director, Sony Interactive Entertainment Content Communications, Sid Schuman, and former President of Sony Interactive Worldwide, Shuhei Yoshida.

A special thanks to our top five fundraisers, and Club Med for donating the major prize.
