Sony Foundation Children’s Holiday Camps

The Sony Foundation Australia Children’s Holiday Camps give high school students the opportunity to take time out from their school holidays to care for a developmentally delayed child over a weekend full of fun activities.

The Board of the Sony Foundation was touched by a story that appeared on The Today Show in 1998 which requested support from corporates for a Holiday Camp at St. Ignatius' College, Riverview (NSW). Ten years on, and due to funding provided by the Sony Foundation, these camps are now held at 17 schools across Australia, with more planned for the coming years.

The camps provide much-needed respite for parents as well as offering an enriching experience for both the children and students. High school students are able to experience the challenges and everyday demands involved in caring for a developmentally delayed child while the children are able to enjoy a fun filled weekend.

Camp agendas and activities are developed by each school. Theme park excursions, horse riding, swimming, arts and craft, talent shows, magic shows and picnics are just some of the activities conducted by camps that keep the children smiling.
